Osain Chala |
In a previous edition of our bulletin we announced the
new mural project that Leo conceived for Villegas street, contiguous to The Eye
of the Cyclone. The first one was made by Tin Tin, the Belgian of the
barefoot feet. On the same wall, Osain Chala, intimate friend of Leo, is making
three more. They are characters from the Old Havana: Barbaro, an excellent
confectioner, Liset, a peanut seller, and Adelaida, an emblematic fortune
teller. Osain was born in Encrucijada, Villa Clara province, in 1982, in a not
very favorable home for arts. Therefore, his studies along the years has been practically
authodidact, although he has been able to exchange and practice with several
professors and visual artists of the Island. Up to now he has worked with oil
on canvas, fundamentally, focusing in the difficult art of the portrait. For
this young and sacrificed creator the painting is, not just a means of personal
expression but a vital necessity of first order. Painters of universal fame as
Miguel Ángel Buonarroti, Diego Velázquez or Joaquín Sorolla and Cubans as
Roberto Fabelo, Kcho or Zaida del Río constitute indispensable referents for
his creative work.
