    Leo D’ Lázaro Cubillas

    Nacido en La Habana, 6 de marzo de 1965.

   He born at La Habana on March 6th, 1965

·       Inicia su vida artística en 1979. He starts his artist life in 1979.

Su concepto de creación artística-filosófica es la Arqueología del Presente. Para  Leo el futuro no existe, es sencillamente el presente generándose minuto a minuto. Mediante el uso de la fotografía y los objetos de la realidad Leo captura lo que ocurre en la vida diaria, ya sea en la suya propia, la de sus amigos, la de su galería o de la ciudad (La Habana Vieja) y mediante el uso de los colores envejece la obra, invitando al observador a realizar una excavación en la historia de la obra. Su técnica pictórica es el collage, fundamentalmente, todas las fotografías en las obras son tomadas por él. En la escultura trabaja con todo tipo de materiales. Leo es uno  de los pocos artistas que necesita de la actividad humana alrededor suyo para crear. En soledad sería imposible. Él extrae los sentimientos de las personas, sus problemas, sus tristezas sus alegrías, sus dolores, sus desgracias, sus dichas y a partir de todo eso elabora su obra. Pero también, por supuesto, usa su propia para realizar sus creaciones.

His artistic-philosophical creation concept´s is the Archaeology of the Present. To Leo the future doesn't exist, it is, simply, the present being generated minute to minute. By means of the use of the photos (on the paintings) and the objects of the reality (in the sculptures) Leo captures what happens in the daily life, either in his own, of his friends, of his gallery or of the city (Old Havana) and using the colors, like the ocher, the sepia, the earth tones he get old his art works, inviting the observer to carry out an excavation in the history of the painting or the sculpture. His pictorial technique is the collage, fundamentally, all the photos on the paintings are taken by him. In the sculpture he works with all type of materials, metal, marble, wood, clay, granite and gypsum. Leo is one of the few artists, maybe the only one in Cuba, that needs of the human activity around him to create. In solitude it would be impossible. He extracts the feelings of people, their problems, their sadness, their happiness, their pains, their misfortunes, their triumphs and starting from all that it elaborates his paintings and sculptures. But also, of course, he use his own life to make his art.
