The Eye
“...leveled with the street”
Last Saturday, May 12, as part of the already
concluded 11th Havana Biennial of Visual Arts, we inaugurate our collateral
project “...leveled with the street”. Nearly the 9 o'clock gunshot,
Villegas street (lateral to The Eye of the Cyclone) witnessed and was active
entity of a great performance where the Compañía de Pantomima Teatro del
Cuerpo Fusión and its Educational Unit participated, with the presence of
its manager, Maritza Acosta, the living statues The Outsider (Oly Isaac)
and the recently presented Gentleman from Paris (Andrés Pérez), the
itinerant Swiss musician Ananda Krishna Rőősli (Interpreter of the Hang
and of the Didgeridoo), the Cuban visual artist and performer Elizabeth
Vargas Hurtado, the painter and addicted cycloneer Osain Chala, the American
sculptor and designer Brian O´Neill and Leo D´Lázaro´s sister, Isis, emblematic
Cuban visual artist and pedagogue.
The inauguration, as can be appreciated in
the picture on the left, was a great human and artistic storm. Sculptures of
Leo were placed along the street, even his vehicle became a car-art, paintings
in the mimes' hands flew about between the participants and the obser-vers
while these young artists gave a proof of their masterly to improvise and group
during the scenic displacement besides showing a high wealth in the wardrobe as
in the make-up and the domain of the corporal expression; Ananda interpreted
melodies of Swiss-Indian origin; The Outsider protected the hope; The Gentleman
from Paris gave dreams; Elizabeth wandered erotic and dreamful; the
painters knitted with their paintbrushes a new history in the Alley of the
Murals and Leo D´Lázaro, faithful to his creative style, interacted with total
spontaneity.
This time The Eye emerged toward the street surprising our
guests. The art party “...leveled with the street” continued afterwards
in the interior, first with a brief milonga and then, at eleven pm, with the
happy and prospective jazz concert of the Grupo Cauce, directed by the
pianist and composer Yadasni Portillo, who interpreted themes of his repertoire
composed by himself.
